Today, I went for a charity concert at Sugar Creek Baptist Church. It was organized by the Chinese community in Houston, with the aim of raising fund to build a school for the children in Si Chuan, and it could not have been more appropriate to hold it on 1 June 2008, Children's Day. The theme was 孩子, 別哭 in Chinese, or Wipe Away Your Tears in English. It was only through the concert, I realized how catastrophic the 8.0 degrees merciless earthquake was. There were many touching stories about the victims. One of it was about a little girl who had already escaped the school, but realized that her friends were still inside, so she ran back, wanting to rescue them. As she ran, the building collapsed, and she lost her arm. That is love. There was a telephone interview with that girl, and unexpected to all, she was still very happy and optimistic about life, though she's now left with only one arm. That is faith. A photo of her was shown, and the smile was probably the most beautiful smile I've ever seen, given the circumstance that she was in. That is hope. Once again, the unity of China is strengthened, with men and women willing to adopt the orphans. The soldiers smiled each time they rescued a soul, even though they have not slept for days. The people stood strong in one accord (not Honda Accord). Seeing all these, I am moved. |
