Day 4
Today is the eve of the wedding. We rushed to get my sarong, coz I'm the Bestman. Well, what exactly is Bestman? I have no idea until tomorrow. Call time: 0500hr. OMG! Since there's nothing much to update, I'll post 2 findings today:
Finding 2
It is rather easy to differentiate the poor and the rich. Generally, the rich tend to have a bulging tummy and an excess layer to keep them warm in the already sizzling Sri Lanka. The reason is obvious: Only the rich live in abundance. Nonetheless, the rich in their younger age tend to be rather fit. For example, Pavi was a swimmer representing the University of Colombo. However, because he is now representing Unilever, which manufactures brands like Walls and Ben and Jerry's, you can expect something else.
Finding 3
I had a chance to go to a supermarket, and as part of my studies or future profession, you should know what I'd do in a supermarket. I surveyed the prices of most of the goods that can be found in Singapore. A box of Rocher costs about SGD$12, double of that of Singapore. However, 1kg of rice costs only SGD$1, and necessities such as toothpaste by Colgate and facial cleanser by Johnson & Johnson cost about SGD$1-2 for a standard size. This is about 100-200% cheaper than that of Singapore. However, within the Colgate toothpaste, the one with advanced whitening formula would be more expensive than that of Singapore. Well, the conclusion is clear. Necessities are very affordable in Sri Lanka, given the same product by international brands. However, luxury items are very expensive. Chocolate is considered a luxurious item, because one does not consume it for survival.
Okay, I'm halfway through my 10 days trip, how time flies. And I'm starting to get to know the family better...
