Whilst traveling on our world class public transport from Expo to Boon Lay today, something silly happened! It reminded me of a story from the newspaper some time back~ There was a guy who offered his seat to a pregnant lady out of kindness, only to be starred at, coz the lady was merely oversized! Then there were instances when people who don't offer seats to pregnant ladies, coz they didn't seem like they are pregnant, and as a result, they are also starred at. Unfortunately, I belong to the second category. I gave up my seat upon request, and with a sense of guilt, I began to observe the lady. Well, she's a Westerner, and if you know, some Westerners look neither old nor young. They just have this same look for 40 years, the never-changing look. I checked her out not with the intention to doubt, but to self-examine my heart, to scrutinize if there's any major character flaw or unkindness, so much so that I did not offer my seat to her. After some observations, I think that the fault was not really in me, because she is tall and unfortunately not too slim, and she looked as though in her 40s. Biologically speaking, that's not a safe age to get pregnant. Aesthetically speaking, I mistook foetus for lipid. Fashionably speaking, she was not in any maternity outfit. I would sincerely suggest pregnant ladies who don't look pregnant to wear a 'I AM PREGNANT' shirt, and those who are not pregnant but look like one to wear a 'I AM NOT PREGNANT' or 'I AM STILL SINGLE' shirt, but the later would not be too obvious since many singles are still pregnant, unfortunately. |
