Life has been tremendously good recently, as you can see from my online photo album.

Emerge 2007 is great! Caught the fire, caught the anointing, caught the presence and caught the vision. Isn't this what Emerge 2007 is about? =)

Recently, I took over an Accounts Supervisor's duties for a 2 weeks period as he is on leave. He spent about 2 days to brief me on the jobscope. I must admit that he is rather knowledgeable and experienced, given the fac t that he has been working for about 7-8 years already, and he is currently pursuing ACCA Level 2. However, there is something really lacking in him!

During the briefing, which lasted at least 1-2 hours for each session, I would raise many queries. Very often, he would raise his voice and became very impatient. Nonetheless, my questions did not stop just because of his frustration. He went to the extent of shouting, "Why can't you just follow instructions? The instruction is like this and you are not following! So that is wrong!" Oh well, I never accept whatever that comes to me! If I do that, then I am seriously no different from a robot. Let me reiterate, my name is Chen Ying-Hsu Dennis and not Robot Chen!

From this incident, I realize the importance of soft skills more than ever before, so important that it takes precedence over hard skills at times. Of course, hard skill is still the essential foundation in life, coz without that, there's nowhere we can go! No wonder University education is so very important! Coz through it all, you learn the necessary PR skills through tangible human interaction during group projects and making friends, instead of pure grounding in hardcore knowledge! Programs like ACCA focuses purely on the academic aspect, but teaches little or no inter-personal skills, because you study on your own and it's all between you and the books. You can throw and punch the books, and they'll never make any noise! It's sad to see high fliers in the industry vending anger anyhow and anywhere, commanding no respect from their subordinates or friends, let alone having many friends. I can't help but sigh..

I believe this is also in sync with Lai Meng's post. If her AD no longer wants to copy e-mails to temp staff, then perhaps he should first use his pea brain on the dire consequence. Further more, the AD can better express this news in a more tactful manner. Everyone has emotion, be it a temp or perm staff. Even the cats and dogs have emotion! Haiz.. Why can't people learn to esteem others better than themselves?

One day, I shall be an example to the people in Word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith and in purity...
